Here is the railroad map of Walnut Cove.  It is an edited version that came from Dave Bott (http://southern-railway.railfan.net/ay/).

Would you happen to know the exact Milepost for the CF line's at-grade crossing with the N&W? The N&W Milepost I know is Milepost R108. I run a railfanning group for the NS Winston Salem District (what was the N&W line that the A&Y, and later Southern Railway interchanged with in Walnut Cove. I'm wanting to gather information about the history of the N&W line that was originally built by the Roanoke & Southern Railroad and brought by the N&W in 1896, nicknamed "The Pumpkin Vine (Punkin Vine)" for it's tough grades, I would especially like to gather information on the Interchange with the CF Line in Walnut Cove, and the CF Line west of Walnut Cove to Rural Hall (I believe this section of the CF Line was briefly managed by the Winston Salem District). The CF line around Walnut Cove and West of Walnut Cove did for sure survive the merger. FRA records still showed a grade crossing at MLK Jr. Road during the 1980's, I assume the tracks were that far East to accomadate room for trains using the Wye. The section of track from near MLK Jr. Road to the RJR Brook Cove Facility was removed sometime from the late 1980's to 1992. The RJ Reynolds plant still received coal by rail during the early 1990's, and was serviced by the Yadkin Valley after the tracks east of RJR were removed. The section between RJR Brook Cove and the present day end of track in Rural Hall was removed sometime between 1996 and 2000. I know the CF Line was still in Walnut Cove during the 1980's because of information from a track chart of what was once the "Eastern Division of Norfolk Southern, and information from an Engineer that's been working the Winston Salem District for over 40 years that hired on before the N&W merger and is still running pusher sets over the Winston Salem District.
